Grade (g/t)
TechnicalConcentration of the target metal per tonne of ore, measured in grams per tonne.
Detail
Grade is the central quality metric for mineral deposits. For gold: above 5 g/t = high-grade (economic even underground), 1-3 g/t = medium (typical open-pit), below 1 g/t = low-grade (only economic with very large tonnage or heap-leach). Combined with tonnage, it yields total contained ounces. For other metals: copper in % (above 1% = high), lithium in % Li2O, rare earths in % TREO.
Example
Lundin Gold Fruta del Norte: 8.68 g/t gold — extremely high for an underground deposit of this size.
