Junior Miner

Market Structure

Mining company with a market capitalization under $500M, mostly in the exploration or resource-definition phase.

Detail

Junior Miners are the roughly 3,000 small mining companies that typically operate in the exploration, resource-definition or pre-feasibility phase. Market capitalization usually below $500M. They generate more than 60% of all new mineral discoveries worldwide and are therefore the pipeline for the major miners (Senior Miners), who mostly grow via M&A rather than their own exploration. Structural coverage gap: generalist equity research platforms find analyst cost vs coverage revenue negative — which is why Mineralis exists.

Example

Classic Junior Miners: BCM Resources, Goliath Resources, Heliostar Metals — all TSX-V, all <$500M market cap.
